Yes, there is a lot of sugar in this, but the fiber in the beans cancel out the calories, right? But seriously, this is packed full of fiber and if you use Sucanat or even Turbinado sugar, it’s not that bad since those sugars aren’t processed like the nasty white table sugar everyone has become accustomed to.
48 ounces navy beans
1-1/2 cups turbinado sugar (or light brown sugar)
5-6 slices of thick cut bacon, cooked and chopped
1/2 cup honey
2 tsp paprika
1 tsp unsulphured molasses
1/8 tsp cumin
Not quite 1/8 tsp cloves
1/8 tsp salt
dash black pepper
Drain all liquid from the beans.
Stir all ingredients in small pot.
Simmer on low for about 25 minutes, stirring occasionally, making sure beans don’t burn.
Great with an easy cheesy burger.
